love this so much! all the internet it girls! as for my fave gift to give, i buy 50 plain white matchbooks for 6 bucks on amazon, and then i'll decorate one with poetry and drawings and colors that remind me of a friend and then give it to them. i think of it as a card-level gift, or like, a cute party favor. i pair it with other gifts a lot. :))
I’m a big fan of being gifted things I need but will not spend money on for myself. Last year I asked for a metal water bottle (low fuss, no silicone because otherwise it’ll never feel clean to me) and I got just that! When I was 16 my least favorite aunt bought me a nice towel for Christmas, and while I was baffled at the time, I’ve really come to appreciate that as a college student. I say this while wearing slippers she got me one Christmas that took me a year to even take out of the box. I guess what I’m really saying is to be a little less harsh on your shitty aunts because a broken clock is right twice a day, usually on Christmas.
maybe boring but i think things that you can wear every day made in beautiful materials are excellent gifts. i have a navy blue johnstons of elgin cashmere jumper that i got for 28 euro on ebay and it is so special to me. last month for our anniversary i got my girlfriend a tiny 14kt gold vintage teddy bear charm to wear on the chain i bought for her birthday (her late grandfather was a really important figure in her life and he loved teddy bears), it won't tarnish for a long time so she doesn't have to take it off. a bialetti moka pot is a v chic and practical present for anyone who drinks coffee imo, i love the ritual of it (so much nicer than one of those pod machines) and using mine makes me feel like a gorgeous young sicilian widow who is is tormented by her emotional and as-yet unconsummated affair with the local priest. and they look so cute. a thing of beauty is a joy forever etc.
I’m getting my lovely mother FishWife tinned fish because it’s adorable and she loves interesting food, and a backgammon set so she can teach me how to play and we can play together. @evilfemale is right on the nose with a chess set, last year for christmas I MADE my other brother a ceramic chess set by hand and fired and glazed each little piece with a design and it took probably 75 hours and I made me happier than it made him. I love to play board games that are as old as time ❤️

as far as gift ideas: I am getting my brother the ingredients to his favorite cocktail + a set of cute cocktail glasses as a christmas/housewarming gift for his new apartment. He really likes white russians (okay?......... i used to work at a bar and when he ordered them, the bartender was like: kill yourself) but whatever so i’m getting him kahlua and vodka and cream as a cute little set and then cutesy glasses.
